There are stories about Nero the emperor of Rome, who lived during the fourth century, having ice brought from the mountains. He somehow prepared it with fruit on the top. King Tang of China had a method of creating ice and milk concoctions.

It sounds like a lot of work but no one complained. And when the lid was lifted and the ice cream was dipped out, you only heard oohs and aahs and this is soo good. It was worth all the work. Today we have the luxury of being able to buy automatic ice creamers that do all of the work for us.

The outer compartment of the ball holds the frozen gel and the ice cream mixture is added to the inside, and then you just toss the ball or roll it around. This is a fun thing for the kids to do on a hot summer afternoon in the back yard. This would also work for a camping trip if you have a cooler that will keep the gel frozen for a length of time.
Someone may still be inventing the ice cream maker. Who knows what type of ice cream maker that we will be able to purchase this time next year.
